Proper sanitation protocols are always in effect at Renewal
WHAT TO EXPECT AT RENEWAL
Keeping things clean:
The sanitation and disinfection requirements for skin, hair, and nail salons in Iowa are pretty stringent. On any given day, someone with an infectious disease could enter our salon spaces so we are trained to treat everyone as if they do. Renewal prides itself on keeping the space as clean and healthy as possible. Because of the hightened concern brought about by the spread of human coronavirus, I wanted to highlight a few of the methods employed at Renewal. If you want to know all of what the Board of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences requires, you are welcome to go to their website and access those rules and regulations.

Key routine habits:
- Bedding and towels are laundered after each client.
- Re-usable items that come in contact with clients such as masque brushes, lash tweezers, eye wands, etc are washed with soap/water, air-dried, then submerged in disinfectant after each use. EPA-registered disinfectant wipes or a UV sterilizer are used for items that can’t be submerged. Salon sanitation rules require an EPA registered disinfectant that is bactericidal, viricidal, and fungicidal. Pictured below are disinfectants used at Renewal.
- Makeup brushes are sprayed with anti-bacterial brush cleaner, washed with soapy water, air dried, then disinfected in a UV sterilizer between every use.
- Disposable items such as gauze, gloves, waxing sticks, and makeup tester applicators are immediately thrown away.
- Cindy washes her hands before and after every client.
- The reception desk, bathroom fixtures, and door handles are regularly disinfected.
Temporary changes:
- Clients should reschedule appointments if they feel ill or have any reason to think they have been in contact with someone with symptoms of the coronavirus within 10 days.
- Renewal personnel will wear masks voluntarily or upon client request. Since hand washing is sufficient to deactivate COVID-19 and many other germs, gloves may or may not be worn during services. Clients can request Cindy wear gloves or a mask during their entire service.
