The owner, Cindy Shaw, is a licensed esthetician and has been working in the beauty industry since 1995 when she became an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. Cindy earned a BS in Animal Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1992 and worked as a veterinary technician and research assistant prior to completing the esthetics program at The Salon Professional Academy in Iowa City in 2010.  Renewal Skin & Body Center opened to clients June 1, 2011.

Certifications Cindy Has Earned:
  • Dermalogica Expert certification since 2013, the highest distinction offered by The International Dermal Institute.
  • BioTherapeutics Device Training: bt-micro, bt-micro fusion, and bt-sculpt.
  • Makeup Application & Product Knowledge: Glo Skin Beauty and Jane Iredale Cosmetics.
  • Lash Lift Training: Refectocil.
  • Fur Professionals products & protocols
  • Ongoing Education: Regularly attends classes on skin conditions, eyelash services, makeup trends, disinfection practices, and marketing.

It might surprise you to know that Cindy is an Iowa native, avid horse lover, enjoys singing gospel music, and trained in TaeKwon Do (2nd degree black belt). Her other titles include wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt.

​I’m from Los Angeles and have lived in Iowa City since 2013.  I’m single, no kids, with a sister and nephew in California. I love cats, reading, and singing in the Senior Center chorus.  I graduated with a BA in English from UCLA  Then I got my Master’s in Library Science and worked as a librarian for the RAND Corporation and public libraries.  Having a degree in English, I switched careers to technical writing and editing to work in the growing field of online learning. I then became a Senior Editor for McGraw Hill. I’m also a published writer in astrology, and have work experience in several different jobs ranging from receptionist to apartment manager.  Now I’m excited to learn about skin care and makeup while working with Cindy at Renewal!  Hope to get to know you all soon, so please stop by the front desk to say hello.
